University evacuated following gas leak.

Thursday 11th October 2012.

Students and staff were evacuated from the Robert Gordon University after the fire alarm rang throughout the Garthdee Campus on Wednesday.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service responded to the alert sending two fire engines to the scene within minutes.

The fire service advised contractors working near the Health Building on how to rectify the situation after they hit a gas main outside the building.

Students in the Health Building said they could smell gas for around twenty minutes before the alarm was sounded at 14.50.

Robert Gordon University student, Jennifer Macleod said "I was in my tutorial class and I asked the girl sitting next to me, 'Can you smell gas?' Then about fifteen minutes later the alarm went off." The building was evacuated calmly and safely.
